Liz - choir director (North London)

Hi, I'm Liz - I'm the director of the Choir with No Name North London.

My musical journey has been an unusual one. I originally started learning music as a recorder player like most kids, but then as a classical saxophonist. While I was in the school choir, I didn’t take singing seriously until I was 20 – I was dared to get up and sing My Funny Valentine at a jam session. I was hooked and went off to train as a jazz vocalist, but ended up performing as a soul, jazz and funk soloist for about 10 years.

A friend asked me to sing at one gig with a gospel choir a few years back and my love affair with choirs started. I’ve been doing my best to do as much group singing as possible ever since, and now I sing with, write music for, and direct gospel choirs, vocal jazz groups, community choirs, classical choirs and a cappella choirs and groups. You name it, I’m up for it, and as result I’ve been lucky enough to sing or write for choirs and groups on film scores at Abbey Road, TV shows, albums, international tours, some of the UK’s top venues and festivals and even the Proms over the last 5 years.

I’ve known about the Choir With No Name for years, and am absolutely chuffed to work with an organisation that agrees that singing with other people is good for your physical and emotional health, as well as being a right laugh!
